SVG textPath : wrong alignment when textLength is specified and text-anchor="middle|end"

Reported by antlafra...@gmail.com, Apr 15 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/51.0.2704.7 Safari/537.36

Example URL:

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open the attachment
2. Look at the text alignment

What is the expected behavior?
The text should be aligned to the right on the SVGs 1-3.
The text should be aligned to the center on the SVGs 4-6.

What went wrong?
The text is not correctly aligned on the SVGs 2, 3, 5 & 6 (where textLength is specified).

Does it occur on multiple sites: N/A

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? No

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 51.0.2704.7 Channel: dev
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0

I could not see the same problem on IE or Firefox because textLength does not work on <textPath> elements. Firefox displays everything correctly if the attribute is added to the parent <text> element. IE and Edge seem unstable - the display changes when text is selected or zoom level is changed

Thanks for the report.

The reason this happens is likely that adjustments from 'textLength' are applied after those from 'text-anchor' (for <textPath> - non-<textPath> does things differently.)
Yes that would perfectly explain the wrong alignment
