Chrome is not using the default audio device

Reported by y...@blesmrt.net, Apr 12 2016

Issue description

Chrome Version       : Google Chrome	49.0.2623.112 (Official Build) m (32-bit) Revision	4fc366553993dd1524b47a280fed49d8ec28421e-refs/branch-heads/2623@{#663}

         IE:

What steps will reproduce the problem?

I have two audio devices in my system, both physically and in the playback devices. One is speakers and second is headset.

(1) Set default audio and communications device to headphones.
(2) open video on youtube.com (or whatever)

What is the expected result?

Play audio on the default audio device from start.

What happens instead?

Audio plays on speakers.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

Workaround: Set default audio AND communications (doing just one doesn't help) device to speakers and then both back to headset.

Seems the same problem as reported at https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/RMHYDvJ0Fis but I have Windows 7 Enterprise and newest chrome.

Furthemore, compared to the linked report at product forums, in my case setting the default audio device to headset, then restarting chrome doesn't help. Chrome still always uses speakers first.

Huh, actually it kinda does. Terminating chrome, setting both defaults to speakers, then back to headphones and then starting chrome again does help while performing the workaround with running chrome, then restarting it (while the default audio is still headphones but no fiddling with default devices during the chrome restart) does not help.

Dale, does this sounds familar to you? I don't have speaker so can't verify if it is true.

Actually, it looks more like a problem with my Logitech headphones drivers. The same behaviour is exhibited by more programs and the headphones device fails to play the test sound, even though it was working just a second ago and it fixes by the resetting the default device ritual. sigh.
