More detailed info on the big-searchbox model, which has been shared with history and extension folk https://folio.googleplex.com/chrome-ux-specs-and-sources/Chrome%20Inner%20Pages/03-Settings/specs#%2FSPEC-settings_structure-bigsearch.png%3Fz=width

Alan, can you please share a link to the mocks of how search results should be highlighted? I think that's all that's needed for this bug to be closed.

I need to know how you want to build the arrow + carrot? If you want pngs, let me know how you'd like them cut

@dpapad -- is there anything else you need?

Yes. 1) Need mocks for the case where the search produces no results. 2) Need clarification on the behavior of the "x" button in the search field. I am assuming that when clicked, it clears the text field and all highlights from the results, is that right? Should it also empty the contents of the page, or should the previous search results stay visible (but not highlighted)?

Assigning back to Alan. Re #2 -- Clicking the "x" should probably clear the searchbox and exit search mode. I.e. all sections become visible, no highlights, and any other visual changes are reverted back to normal.

1. Hopefully doing what we do today is the easiest: show "No matches were found" in the content area with a link to Help center. Specs here: 2. The answer to this depends on wither or not we're showing the cards when you enter search mode. Also keep in mind, the nav bar is hidden by default now. If we do not show the cards (preferred), clicking x will : - clear the search text - clear the highlights - empty contents of page, meaning the content area is blank If we do show the cards when in search mode, clicking x will: - clear the search text - clear the highlights - return settings to it's default state, meaning basic view. (as we do today)
