Physical Web Notifications should not disappear shortly after seeing them |
||||||
Issue descriptionAs reported by bpw@, sometimes when you are at the edge of a beacon, you swipe down notification shade, see a PW notification, and it disappears just as you are about to tap it. If android provides an API to know when the shade is opened, I think we should not clear existing notifications, even when beacons are lost. If you tap the notification, it should show you the stale results (related to #597316)

I'm guessing this is impossible (determining the UI state from a service), but I'm asking around for suggestions.

Potentially leave it up forever -- it's up to the user to dismiss

There's no API to do this sort of thing (canceling when no one's looking). You could look for screen off, but that wouldn't handle the watch situation, etc. other places where notifications are displayed.

AFAIK we removed showing on watch. Screen-off actually sounds like a great idea, isn't it?

Hm, I had forgotten about that. It may be. I'll try and see if there are any implementation hangups.

I don't think this is possible without a long-running service. I'm asking the frameworks team for further guidance.

Sounds like there are no good options. I'm going to mark this as wontfix until some other opportunity of attack comes our way. |
