Kalin, this is DEFINITELY WontFix. Alternate modes (such as VESA DP, which is what dingdong uses) aren't supposed to traverse USB hub topologies. This is working as intended. The dingdong dongle only works on direct-attach to the system.

Thanks for clarification.

Is there a reason the VESA DP mode isn't supposed to traverse USB hub topologies? It seems that this is a case where users would like to use chromebooks (like a docking station) and still charge the laptop similar to Macs with docking stations. At the very least is there an alternative?

Any docking station that works with a 2015 or 2016 Type-C MacBook will also work with a Type-C Chromebook if it correctly supports Alternate Mode. Some more advanced type-C hubs do support alternate mode, meaning the hub itself has a HDMI or DP port, and therefore the Display signals are passed through the port. The specific question here is with a Belkin USB hub, which does *not* support DP alternate mode itself, therefore the signals for display do not even make it to the USB hub to be passed onto anywhere else.
