For the task management project, we'd like additional data on how users use intent tabs, which should guide our decision on which prototype to go with.
We have 2 new metric proposals:
Goal: Out of intent tabs that remain after a re-opening of Chrome, how many of those tabs are acted upon i.e. not closed/clobbered? This should require a new histogram whenever an intent tab is closed:
+ Closed by back button before Chrome loses focus
+ Closed within tab switcher before Chrome loses focus
+ Clobbered before re-opening Chrome
+ Clobbered by another intent from same app
+ Closed within tab switcher anytime after Chrome first loses focus with less than 10s of activity in the tab (in new Chrome session)
+ Clobbered after re-opening Chrome with less than 10s of activity in the intent tab (in new Chrome session)
+ Closed or clobbered after re-opening Chrome with more than 10s of activity in the intent tab (in new Chrome session)
==> Note we can also place a tab in this bucket if 10s of activity have elapsed vs. just after the tab gets closed
Where:
+ Lose focus = User switches away from Chrome, e.g. via home button/overview/back
+ Re-opening Chrome = Opening Chrome from main intent or a new external intent
+ Clobbering = Navigate to new URL/search from omnibox (and the Chrome tab ceases to be an intent tab)
Goal #2: Are users tab stacks cluttered with intent tabs?
Measure: What % of tabs are from intents? (measured on each page load)
