Issue descriptionTHIS TEMPLATE IS FOR FILING BUGS ON THE ANDROID SYSTEM WEBVIEW. GENERAL WEB BUGS SHOULD BE FILED USING A DIFFERENT TEMPLATE! Device name: Samsung Galaxy S5 (Australia) Android version: 5.0 WebView version (from system settings -> Apps -> Android System WebView): 49.0.2623.105 Application: Age of Ishtaria (Age of Ishtaria - A.Battle RPG) Application version: 1.0.17 URLs (if applicable): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.siliconstudio.ageofishtaria&hl=en Steps to reproduce: (1) Install the update (Android WebView v49). (2) Open the game. (3) Expected result: After about 20 seconds to a minute the home screen should display. Actual result: Stuck in a "Now Loading" screen forever. Additional Information: This is not an isolated case, the Ishtaria community on reddit, the forum and Facebook are facing the same issue and so we are avoiding this update. v48 and below work perfectly fine. I've contacted the developer 'Silicon Studio's' unfortunately it seems their support are pushing me aside. Please Help.

With the WebView update installed (49.0.2623.105) restarting the phone and clearing the cache for WebView does not fix the issue. Also since my device is rooted, I have cleared both the cache and dalvik cache (but the bug still persists).

Verified that this persists in m51. I'll take a look today.

Unfortunately since this doesn't actually crash the app we didn't see this in our beta/incremental rollout data. Thanks for reporting this; we'll try to figure out what's wrong, but it's too late for M49, we'll have to fix this in M50.

03-31 13:07:21.468 13224 13224 W chromium: [WARNING:navigator_impl.cc(280)] Refusing to load URL as it exceeds 2097152 characters. I'm afraid this is something the developer is going to have to fix.

Ah, sounds like they are trying to load a massive data: URL (more than 2 megabytes) with loadUrl(). We no longer allow that because it makes thing sin chromium terrible. They can fix it by using loadDataWithBaseUrl which can tolerate much larger URLs, or by not trying to use massive data: URLs in the first place and instead using file:, a custom scheme, or http: with request interception to serve local content. We should reach out to them to let them know.

Issue 525697 was where this change was made, I've unprotected it so that people can see the reasoning/history of this.

Thank you for your response. Wanting to double check (sorry, I'm not an android developer). Will this bug continue to effect all future versions of Android system WebView? Is there anything else you can supply me in regards to this bug? Or will "[WARNING:navigator_impl.cc(280)] Refusing to load URL as it exceeds 2097152 characters." and directing them to this bug report be enough? Even though Silicon Studio is such a large company (developing Nintendo 3DS and Sony PS4 games) the only point of contact (for this game) is through this email: customer-support@ishtaria-ww.silicon-uranus.com

Yes, this change is permanent and the game will need to be updated before it will work again. You can direct them to this bug report; that should be enough (they can ask for more info if needed) - I'll try to get one of our developer relations people to contact them as well.

I've passed this information to our internal contact with this developer, who will get in touch.

The developer says they've pushed a fixed version to production. |
