Capturing MS Word window using chrome.desktopCapture.chooseDesktopMedia is broken

Project Member Reported by joi@chromium.org, Mar 29 2016

Issue description

Chrome Version : 49
URLs (if applicable) : N/A
Other browsers tested: N/A, this is for window capture with chrome.desktopCapture.chooseDesktopMedia(["window"])

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Use Windows 10, Office 2013
(2) Open MS Word, create a new document.
(3) Capture the window with chrome.desktopCapture.chooseDesktopMedia(["window"]) and display it in a local video tag (alternative: install CrankWheel, http://bit.ly/crankwheelext, and screen share the window using CrankWheel to another tab).
(4) Input text into the Word window, highlight some text, move the mouse around.

What is the expected result?
All changes within the captured window should show up in the captured video.

What happens instead?
The changes within the document are not captured. They do however get captured if you capture the full screen rather than this specific window.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

This is a report from one of the users of CrankWheel (www.crankwheel.com) that I'm submitting here after some research and after validating it is not a problem with CrankWheel itself. I find it likely this could be related to issue 403703 , which is old but looks like it exhibited the same behavior. Assigning to tommi@ only because I know he's on the WebRTC team and will probably know who the right assignee would be ( issue 403703 was assigned to jiayl@).

Sending to gyzhou@ per chat with niklase@.
Tried on chrome version 51.0.2704.63 and office 2013 in Windows 10. I cannot reproduce this issue.

When we do anything on MS word, its window will be in front. Then Cropping window capture (Screen capture first and then crop captured sccreen by window rectangle) will be used. Therefore it is wired that full screen capture works and window capture doesn't since both of them using screen capturer inside.
Are you sure that the cropping capturer is active for the word window? The are many cases whet it's not active even when the target window is on top, see
third_party/webrtc/modules/desktop_capture/cropping_window_capturer_win.cc
