[LBS] Open URL in new IE tab |
||||||
Issue descriptionUser requested that LBS open URLs in new browser tabs instead of new windows when it redirects to legacy browser. Windows has registry (ShortcutBehavior) and GPO to define how IE should handle URL launches from applications, so it would make sense to read this setting rather than always opening in a new tab: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askperf/2007/03/30/ie7-tabbed-browsing/ Steps: 1. Configure LBS 2. Start Chrome and IE 3. Select "A new tab in the current window" in IE > Internet Options > "Tabs" > "Open links from other programs in" and save (See ie_setting.png) 4. Open a url_list URL in Chrome to evoke LBS redirect Requested behavior: LBS opens the URL in a new tab within existing IE window Actual behavior: LBS opens the URL in a separate IE window

Any update on this? We are getting increasing requests for this as we roll out Legacy Browser Support.

This problem has been discussed in the past. There is a workaround for that available here https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=318477 . We will try to check if there is a way to query the setting inside IE and use it instead in the future.

Apart from the workaround listed in #4 nothing new here.

Good news I think I got that one. Using DDE to invoke IE seems to be the way to make it read it's pref and act accordingly. It's cool how APIs that are around since '87 save the day ;)

Nice! So, what now? I can help test, as needed.

This is already present in the current beta. It will be promoted to stable after QA vets it ok.

Is there a changelog for LBS I can take a look at? Also, can I get the beta to test in our lab? Thanks!

I am afraid there is no changelog for LBS. As for the beta let me dig the documentation for it and I will post it here tomorrow.

This is draft document describing the beta channel and how it can be used. We are working on publishing this together with the official documentation of LBS. |
