FR: Please bring back the ability to clear all notifications with a small number of clicks. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionI found out from the following article that a feature I love is gone: http://mashable.com/2015/10/15/chrome-notification-center/#N2r9nANvcuqz For users who have multiple notifications, it can be a clutter to have a pile of notifications. The inability to configure configurations on a per-device basis only makes this worse. I shouldn't have to close chrome and reopen it just to get a clear screen.

The article correctly alludes to the reason of the removal: usage of the notification center was incredibly low, so in practice many people had this issue already. On Windows and Mac we're moving to use the system notification centers, which offer the ability to dismiss (all) notifications and muting notifications themselves. However, I suspect that you're also interested in Linux, where we have no prioritized plans to switch to a system notification center. In case you are in control of the entity sending the notifications, there are two things to consider: (1) Notifications can be collapsed together by using the `tag` property. This is a good practice to follow— it significantly limits the number of notifications to display. (2) Notifications dismiss by themselves after 25 seconds, unless you request a longer timeout. We don't have a good solution for getting many notifications from many different websites. However, we receive very little feedback in this regard for the number of people who receive notifications on a daily basis. (In contrast, we received a lot of feedback for getting rid of the system tray icons for a much lower number of users.)
