Do you use any font management software?
I am a graphic designer so I need a font management software. Right now, I am using FontExplorer 3.5.4 (build 8178).

I went back a version of Chrome, now at 49.0.2623.110 (64-bit). Same font problem. See attached capture from a wikipedia page.

Well I spoke too fast. I just cannot install an earlier version. Every time I try, version 49.0.2623.110 is showing. Maybe I don't follow the proper procedure.

So I am stuck to that version. :(

Looks like your Helvetica or Arial font is corrupted or incorrectly cached. Try adding/removing it again with your font manager. You could also try to temporarily disable the font manager to see if that helps.

Hi, that didn't work. Helvetica is a system font. Cannot remove or deactivate. I disabled the font manager with no success. I have no problem whatsoever with those fonts in all other software either display or print. Something went wrong with latest update for sure because before, all was fine. Also, how can I go back couple version of Chrome. I tried many times and it is always version 49.0.2623.110 showing.

Thanks for the feedback!

drott, can you think of any chnages that might have caused this behavior on Mac?

Hold on. I went in the advanced setting and the default Sans-Serif font was changed to something else. I put it back to Arial and it looks like it's now working well.

Maybe that was the problem.
Could you tell what it was changed to? If you change it back to this setting, does the error occur again?

eae@, I can't link this to any recent changes specifically.
I think it was the Coding that was set to Unicode UTF-8. I changed it to Western (Windows-1252) and now it is stable. I tried different settings so I am pretty sure that was the last thing I did.
Still not working. I set everything to Times switching from Western (Windows-1252) to Unicode UTF-8 with no changes at all. See attached screen capture from LinedIn page.

Do you have custom versions of Helvetica or Times in your collection in FontExplorer? If so, could you try deactivating those custom versions temporarily? Do you have any other fonts overlapping between system versions or custom versions?

When changing the font default in the advanced preferences, the changes are showing on some pages but not all. If I go on LinkedIn and Thesaurus, no change results, still showing weird character. If I go on Wiki, the changes are there.

Also, what if I reset my privileges on the machine? Maybe that would do something.
