OS: Goobuntu Trusty, using XMonad as window manager

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Cause a Chrome window to open on a non-visible workspace (such as via a doShift ManageHook)
(2)
(3)

What is the expected output?
The window is created on the background workspace, and windows on other workspaces continue functioning normally.

What do you see instead?
All Chrome windows freeze until the aforementioned workspace is made visible.
