Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.11; rv:47.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/47.0 Example URL: https://jsfiddle.net/aethanyc/0m93g3yz/ Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Open https://jsfiddle.net/aethanyc/0m93g3yz/ What is the expected behavior? What went wrong? The details is not open. Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes Is it a problem with a plugin? N/A Did this work before? N/A Does this work in other browsers? N/A Chrome version: <Copy from: 'about:version'> Channel: n/a OS Version: OS X 10.11 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0 This issue was raised in html spec https://github.com/whatwg/html/issues/517 I guess when a summary is in a 'display: none' subtree, it does not have a layoutObject. So it does not respond to any events. https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+blame/132c5d0b92d80a549926b2876b597990493b21d0/third_party/WebKit/Source/core/html/HTMLSummaryElement.cpp#103 I am wondering whether this is a designed behavior? Is it possible to change?

While working on Firefox bug 1245424, I found some interesting test cases that Chrome and Firefox behave differently as described in the comment in the files. I attach them here. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1245424

Would be interesting to know what other browsers do here. Firefox does indeed open the details element.

According to https://github.com/whatwg/html/issues/517, It looks we do not have a clear answer for what should be done for synthetic events. Let me close this as WONTFIX. Please re-open this issue if Blink has to react to synthetic events for this case.
