View source incorrectly displays additional "gt;" text after an encoded html entity

Chrome Version       : 49.0.2623.87 (Official Build) m (32-bit)
URLs (if applicable) : 
Other browsers tested:
    Firefox: OK 44.0.2

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Create a html file with the contents: <b>
(2) View the html file in chrome browser and click on view source

What is the expected result?
The expected text while viewing source sohuld be: <b>

What happens instead?
Instead, it shows: <b>gt; (notice the additional gt;)

Able to repro this issue on Windows 7 & Ubuntu Trusty (14.04) for the Google Chrome Stable Version - 50.0.2661.94

This is a regression issue broken in M51, below mentioned is the bisect info:

This issue is not high priority for our team and unfortunately we do not have enough time to fix it in near future. You can use DevTools elements panel to see html source of the page as workaround.
Feel free to open it again if this one is critical in your workflow.
