No setting in chrome to enable/disable referrer headers

Reported by labobol...@gmail.com, Mar 16 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/49.0.2623.87 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1.
Goto chrome://settings/search#privacy
2.
Search manually search for referrer setting
3.
Nothing found!

What is the expected behavior?
Allow users to disable referrer headers in the settings instead of messing around with commandline switches (--no-referrers).

What went wrong?
There's no setting for enable/disable referrer headers.

Did this work before? No

Chrome version: 49.0.2623.87 Channel: stable
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0

Something from google really should be expected to have better privacy settings in their own browser!

This seems desirable, and Firefox implements this as a preference I believe. I think this will only require a UI component, as the logic for removing the header exists already.

There're extensions that controls referrer header (e.g. Referer Control), these can't be used on Android though.

Ping. Is this feature still worth pursuing? It seems that there is already a pref at [1], so it seems it would be easy to expose this in Settings.

I would be happy about a setting to control referers but adding new settings is always a bit difficult. As discussed above, referers can be controlled by extensions and the command-line, so there is a way for technically versed users to control them.

tnagel@: I think we had some plans to limit referers in general, do you know what the status there is?
No concrete plans afaiu.
