fonts are broken, washed out, some grey some black, some bold some not

Reported by quanto...@gmail.com, Mar 14 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/48.0.2564.116 Chrome/48.0.2564.116 Safari/537.36

Example URL:
all URLs

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. install Chromium
2. load any website
3. fonts are absolutely horrible, eye strainingly bad

What is the expected behavior?
at least be readable and render correctly

What went wrong?
Fonts are often too large or too small on websites and even when I seem to get it right they are blurry and hurt my eyes.

I'm using Linux Mint KDE :::::::::::::: /

etc/lsb-release ::::::::::::::

Here's what reddit looks like right now > http://i.imgur.com/qrkeUTr.png

and here is the text submission page > http://i.imgur.com/Y7uegX5.png

you can see the difference between the same page reddit.com and the fonts are all mixed up and look stupid. The bookmark toolbar fonts are blurry as hell and even though I can read them it hurts my eyes because they are just not clear enough.

I've tried Firefox and that is fine but Chromium is having the issues across the board.

this is what my Chromium settings page looks like > http://i.imgur.com/5ihQucY.png

and you can see them fonts are completely different again, even though the fonts are meant to be black it comes across to my eyes as grey or something wrong with them anyway. They just aren't looking at all right and it's painful to use that way.

and then I go onto other websites, and it's like the URL's are almost bold in text and most often they aren't even displaying correctly sometimes too close together or sometimes too far apart such as this > http://i.imgur.com/P7oHDwN.png and that hurts to look at that screen too.

Yet I can close Chromium and go back to Firefox and it looks perfectly fine or whatever and I have no issues at all. It happens across multiple monitors

I've tried everything and spent literally 3 or 4 days just playing with FONTS and if it can't be a simple fix such as displaying fonts I'll be done with this forever and not bother coming back to it thats how painfully frustrating this is

Hopefully it is an easy fix, although so far I've tried everything I can find online

tl;dr fonts on chromium look GARBAGE, how do I fix it?

Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? N/A

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

There is nothing obviously wrong with any of your screenshots. Chrome respects the settings of the system you're on. If you dislike the fonts then you need to change your font setup on linux to better suite your needs.
