Chrome on Mac showing gray icons for extensions |
||
Issue descriptionChrome 50.0.2661.26 on Mac OS X 10.11.3 As shown in the attached screenshot, gray icons are showing up for all of my extensions, even those that (to my knowledge) have not explicitly installed an icon there. The grayed out icons are for extensions like: lmjegmlicamnimmfhcmpkclmigmmcbeh - Application Launcher for Drive jdlnkeaacmcaeihijlhioaimjebmidgl - Automatic Room Finder abjoigjokfeibfhiahiijggogladbmfm - Google Corporate Extension Reporter And in most cases the buttons are non-functional (or at most just take me to the extension's CWS page).

This is intentional. An extension icon is gray if it can't do anything on the page - that is, if it didn't specify a browser action or page action, or if it's page action is disabled for the active URL.

I'm confused. Prior to some recent version (I believe M50), extensions with no icon would not appear at all in the menu bar. For example, the Google Corporate Extension Reporter and Automatic Room Finder extensions have no icons, yet they are now showing as gray icons in the menu bar, unless I go in and right-click on them and select "Hide in Chrome menu". Are you saying it's intentional that we are now showing gray icons that used to be automatically hidden?

Yes. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AqzvATdfjuB38TvgQbWd3tNK4DyCcEI7frt6jGzM88Y/edit has some info on it (sorry, internal only). Feel free to reach out to me with questions.
