Issue descriptionChromeOS 7978.7.0 / 50.0.2661.16 samus Please specify Cr-* of the system to which this bug/feature applies (add the label below). Steps To Reproduce: (1)Open Browser (2)Click on any image and click on "save image as" (3) Expected Result: File.app should open Actual Result:Fails to open file.app. How frequently does this problem reproduce? (Always, sometimes, hard to reproduce?) Always on one account What is the impact to the user, and is there a workaround? If so, what is it? Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screen shot or log if possible.

Hi Roopa, Thank you for reporting. This sounds scary. However, I was not able to reproduce this. Can I ask your help for investigation? 1) How you failed to open Files app? Nothing happened? or, you see a blank window? 2) Can you reproduce this without images? Like, go to google.com -> right click on non-image area -> choose "Save as..." from the context menu. 3) Can you reproduce this with open dialog? go to drive.google.com -> click "NEW" and "File upload". 4) After you failed open Files app, can you see "Files" in chrome://inspect/#extensions? If you can see it, could you tell me the log by clicking "inspect" and choose "Console" tab? 5) After you failed open Files app, can you see "Files" in chrome://inspect/#apps? If you can see it, could you tell me the log by clicking "inspect" and choose "Console" tab?

Hi Fukino, 1) Nothing happens when it failed to open File.app 2) No,"Save as" works fine 3) No , Its works fine with "File upload" 4) I can see "Files" under chrome://inspect/#extensions but clicking on it nothing opens (unresponsive) 5) I can see "Files" under chrome://inspect/#apps but clicking on it nothing opens (unresponsive)

Observation:- This issue occurs for the users when their profile could not be opened correctly See bug https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=455749 The above bug is now seen quite often on M50 builds

Thank you Roopa. issue 455749 might be related, but it is very weird that "Save as..." works but "Save image as..." doesn't work. I still can't find suspicious differences between them. If possible - Can you share a screen capture video, in which you choose "Save as..." successfully, you fail "Save image as...", and you fail to open "inspect" of Files in chrome://inspect/#extensions? - Can I use the account which reproduces the issue?

Removing release blocker label, since this occurs only on damaged profiles. If this occurs on normal profile, please re-set the release block label.
