Dom, did something change with heuristics, here?

@kdzwinel@gmail.com: 1. You say you installed the site on a first visit. Was this from an app banner or from the add to homescreen shortcut? App banners shouldn't normally show on your first visit. 2. Do you have any chrome://flags enabled? In particular, is --bypass-app-banner-engagement-checks enabled? If that flag is on, then you'll see a banner every time you visit a banner-eligible site, even if it's already installed to homescreen.

@dominickn@chromium.org 1. I used the "add to homescreen" shortcut 2. Nope, all flags are set to default. ------- I was able to reproduce this bug couple days ago with g+ webapp that I also installed via "add to homescreen".

Curious, the banner/add to homescreen logic should definitely prevent this from happening. Nothing's changed recently in that pipeline. I'm trying your repro steps now on the same version of Chrome (but on Android 6.0). I'll report back tomorrow.

I can't reproduce this problem. I verified that app banners were appearing as expected. I tried the repro steps for https://jakearchibald-gcm.appspot.com/ (add to homescreen first, open from homescreen the day after), and I can't get the app banner to appear for the site. Can you visit other app banner enabled sites (e.g. flipkart.com, jakearchibald.github.io/svgomg) and verify that the banner doesn't appear on the *very first* visit you make to the site? I'm really not sure how you managed to trigger an app banner from the site opening from homescreen; the only way I can do this is to enable the "bypass app banner engagement checks" flag.

Banner does not appear on the first visit. I already saw the bug happen in emojoy and g+ web app, but I'll try to reproduce it in other apps (including flipkart and svgomg). Results tomorrow, I'll try to get a recording.

I reproduced the issue in two other apps (see video linked below). I went through my Chrome settings and only setting that might have a non-default value is "dont track" (it's "on"). https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8kmdXb2YOGHbWFYbldkbjF5amc/view?usp=docslist_api

This is extremely curious. The app banner system explicitly adds an event to stop this from happening - and that happens when you add and when you launch an app from homescreen. I'm still unable to reproduce this, so I'm going to have to pepper you with some questions. :) 1. Does the banner come up every time you open the app, or just the first time after adding it to homescreen? 2. Does this happen if you make a new profile? 3. Does this happen when you repeat the procedure for https://googlechrome.github.io/samples/app-install-banner/related-applications/index.html (which advertises a native app, not a web app) 4. Are you absolutely sure chrome://flags/#bypass-app-banner-engagement-checks is disabled (there should be a little "Enable" link under it). The fact that the banner doesn't appear the first time you visit the page suggests that this is disabled though.

No problem, I'm happy to help :) 1. After adding app to the homescreen I opened it from there couple of times before banner came up (probably after sufficient time - a day? - has past between the visits). After installing app again from that banner, or dismissing it, it never showed up again. 4. Yes, see the attached video I just made. It shows my chrome://flags and that airhorner app from the previous video does not show the banner anymore (since it was already shown once). I'll get back tp you about 2 and 3 in ~24h.

The updates are: 3. Yes, see screenshot 2. I cant reproduce that in a fresh profile on chrome beta. So maybe my profile is the issue? Or it was fixed in beta?

There hasn't been any relevant changes that I can think of between Stable and Beta. Stable version 49 will soon be rolled out (if you haven't got it already), perhaps try it there once you get the update with your existing profile? This is such a strange issue...

Closing this out as WontFix for now - if you see this issue pop up again, please reopen!

This is still happening for me (in the latest stable). But if I'm the only one seeing this, it must be a glitch.
