[css-grid] Items should not be autoplaced inside named grid areas |
||
Issue descriptionThis was recently added to the spec. It says: "Every grid cell (in both the explicit and implicit grids) can be occupied or unoccupied. A cell is occupied if it’s covered by a named grid area, or by the grid area of a grid item with a definite grid position; otherwise, the cell is unoccupied. A cell’s occupied/unoccupied status can change during this algorithm." I'm attaching a file demonstrating the issue. The first cell of the 2x2 grid contains a named grid area and thus should not be occupied by any of the grid items (which are all of them autoplaced).

Apparently this is not something new but a sentence that we have been overlooking for more than 2 years. In any case it's very likely going to be removed by spec editors as it only adds unnecessary complexities (see https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-style/2016Mar/0072.html) That's why I'm closing this.
