ChromeReader doesn't always provide a thumbnail. The UI should certainly handle this more gracefully, but otherwise there's not much that we can do about it.
Since the current UI is going to be replaced soon anyway, I'm inclined to just close this bug. WDYT?

Yeah we can just close this. Rachel and I agreed offline that the text will just flow to fill the empty space, which I am implementing in the new UI.
