This is often requested by enterprise businesses that need to push the Gmail Offline app to their users while opening a new tab : much easier for an end-user than installing the app themselves. How soon this may get implemented ? Thanks a lot.

Gmail offline can be installed with the ExtensionInstallForcelist policy (http://www.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3#ExtensionInstallForcelist). The new tab page can be replaced by extensions, which can also be installed with the ExtensionInstallForcelist policy. For example, installing https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dpjamkmjmigaoobjbekmfgabipmfilij?hl=en replaces the new tab page with an empty page.

Our canonical answer to this request is to build an extension that replaces the NTP. Closing.
