Chromium stops saving files at 25MB / 40MB for any large downloads
Project Member Reported by kinuko@chromium.org, Jul 15 2010 Back to list
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Navigate to a dangerous file (e.g. an executable file with .exe extension) that is larger than 40MB.
(Make sure the file is not harmful on your computer)
2. Select 'Save' when prompted

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Chromium saves the entire file with its original size.

Please use labels and text to provide additional information.
Chromium saves only the first 40mb of the file.

I suspect there's a issue around file renaming.

I was able to reproduce the problem with an MP4 video file. I don't believe it's just limited to dangerous file types.

venkat, Please verify and update the bug.
I' working on pyauto test...
No repro steps in r52179 but repros in r52202
bad in r52192 as well.
Maybe r52185?
Comment 17 by mal@google.com, Jul 16 2010
Almost certainly 52185

Downloading large files works in 52181, fails in 52191

I confirm this on Linux
Chromium 6.0.468.0 (52591) Built on Ubuntu 10.04, running on LinuxMint 9
Comment 20 by screa...@gmail.com, Jul 16 2010
Oh and btw it doesn't have to be .exe, i have experienced this problem on .zip archive.
Comment 21 by mr.n...@gmail.com, Jul 16 2010
Running chromium-daily on Ubuntu lucid
Happens on any large file (tried downloading different zips & iso from ubuntu.com)
Downgrading to 51029 (lucid-updates) fixes the issue
Summary: Chromium stops saving files at 40MB for any large downloads (was: NULL)

So when exactly are you going to push the fix out? I hope you're not waiting until next week, because this is a major annoyance. Even some of my YouTube videos won't load anymore. For the time being, I'm forced to start IE almost as often as Chrome.
The fix will go out with the next dev channel release. If you feel that bugs like this are unbearable, consider switching to the beta or stable channel.

Thanks thakis for your quick reply. I would have switched to the beta channel already, but then it would take even longer until the bugfix arrived. Guess I have to stick with IE for the time being.
The beta channel doesn't have this bug.

FIX THIS ISSUE NOW!! It is starting to attract my attention to my Flaming Fox, I don't want to have to leave Google Chrome because of this small but MIGHTY issue. PLEASE FIX IT NOW!!
Parece mentira que hayan pasado mas de 2 dias y todavia nada. Por mucho que sea una dev , es un fallo vergonzoso
Wow. raomokanye, this is a risk you willingly take by opting for the Dev channel. As the gentleman said above, if you're not comfortable with this risk, the beta and stable channels are free of this sort of bug and are quite easy to switch to. Yelling at the developers and making demands is inappropriate. You would run the same risk if you were on Firefox's nightly buids, which is much like Chrome's dev channel.

If you're so inclined, the extension IE Tab will allow you to work around this particular issue without having to fire up another browser.

You can just use private viewing. With it downloads work ok on linux 6.0.466.0 build.

Chromium saves the entire file with its original size.

Please use labels and text to provide additional information.
Chromium saves only the first 40mb of the file.

I suspect there's a issue around file renaming.
