With the webRequest API (https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/webRequest) you can intercept, block, or modify http://, https://, ftp://, file://, or chrome-extension:// requests. It would be nice if you could do the same for ws:// and wss://.
I was trying to write a simple plugin to modify the user-agent string based on certain urls, however all ws:// and wss:// request I was unable to modify the user-agent string.
