Issue 449180: Blank slide at the beginning of Carousel animation upon returning to inactive tab

Reported by, Jan 15 2015

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/39.0.2171.99 Safari/537.36

Example URL:

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open
2. Open a new tab
3. Return to the carousel tab after some time has passed. I can reliably reproduce if I wait more than 10 seconds, but waiting this long is not always necessary.

What is the expected behavior?
4. The carousel should display one slide or two slides next to each other, transitioning from right to left.

What went wrong?
5. Instead, there is white space on the left of a slide sliding in from the right. Additionally, there may be an overlaying flicker of a different slide (recognizable by its title, e.g. "Second slide").

Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? N/A

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 39.0.2171.99 Channel: stable
OS Version: 8.1
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 16.0 r0

At the minimum, this problem occurs on multiple sites using Bootstrap's carousel component, as evidenced by our own user-reported issue, .
Other sites with similar components may also be affected.

In case Bootstrap ends up applying a workaround for this bug at some point, here's a more permanent link (closest version I could find):

Comment 2 by, Jan 15 2015

Note that this bug doesn't seem to affect Mac OS X, only Windows. I don't think anyone has tested Linux yet.

Able to repro the same on win8 chrome version 39.0.2171.99 and latest canary 42.0.2277.0

This is working fine in mac OS

This issue is existing since M36 builds to latest canary. Please let us know if further bisect is needed on the same.

"Can reproduce it on [docs URL]
Ubuntu 14.10 x64 Google Chrome 39.0.2171.95 (64-bit)"

Can someone please tag this as Cr-Blink-CSS Cr-Blink-Animation, or similar?

I see there was a bisect in #3 but we need a revision range.

Comment 12 by, Oct 13 2015

Labels: -Needs-Bisect
Tested on windows 7 and observed the issue is consistently able to reproduce from M25 - 25.0.1358.0. Unable to find any good builds to provide the bisect range, so removing the bisect label.

Comment 13 by, Feb 24 2016

Does not repro on ChromeOS
We need to get some more investigation on how serious this is, or isn't.

Unable to reproduce on Chrome 65 on Windows 10. Given the long amount of time since the last successful reproduction (Oct 2015), closing. If anyone is able to reproduce this still, please re-open with details of your OS and Chrome version.
