|Download Panel resizes window when opening|
|Reported by brandon....@gmail.com, Apr 21 2010||Back to list|
Chrome Version : 5.0.375.9 dev URLs (if applicable) : OS version : 10.6.3 Behavior in Chrome for Windows: no idea What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Download something that opens the download panel What is the expected result? The download panel should show up at the bottom of the window without making the window larger. It should instead consume space from the content in the browser window. What happens instead? The window gets taller (unless already at the maximum height)

This is by design, as we do not want to change the size of the web content. We do attempt to restore the original window size when you close the download shelf, although that logic seems to break at times (see Issue 39266 ).

Yeah, I was looking at http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail? id=29629&q=resize%20download&colspec=ID%20Stars%20Pri%20Area%20Feature%20Type%20Status%20Summ ary%20Modified%20Owner%20Mstone%20OS#c12 and he said to file another bug if we don't want the download panel to change the size of the window. Maybe it's just me, but when I set my window to a particular size, I really don't want anything changing its size besides me. I put my IM window below chrome so I can see the tabs of whoever I'm talking to, and when chrome grows it covers that up. I then have to go and resize it manually. Also, the little yellow "do you want chrome to save your password" thing that pops up doesn't make my window bigger. Neither do the other notification boxes up there. They use up content area and push the content down slightly. It would seem to me to be more consistent if the download pane didn't resize the window either. I know this is probably a nitpicky issue, but it's one of those things that drives me crazy. Thanks! Brandon

This patch fixes this for me on git head. I'm sure I broke some test cases or something, but if anybody else is determined enough to compile your own Chromium, hopefully this will work for you.
