Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Use the scroll wheel regularly, perhaps to scroll to the bottom of a long document.

What is the expected result?

This should not be any more problematic than other ways of scrolling with the mouse.

What happens instead of that?

On Linux, Chrome regularly hangs for several seconds to a minute when using the mouse wheel. Dragging scroll bars does not cause a similar problem. Using gesture scrolling on Chrome for Mac does not cause this problem.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

leese@, Thanks so much for filing. Any specific long document are you looking into?

This can happen on any website. I often hit it in gmail, also various
internal websites I use for work.

Unable to repro the issue on Linux 12.04 chrome version 33.0.1750.91 (Official Build 250589) - No hang observed on scrolling down a website (Eg : cnn.com, gmail.com)

leese@, Could you please provide us with the chrome://gpu info
Comment 6 by leese@google.com, Feb 17 2014
I should clarify that this doesn't repro reliably. There is no amount of
scrolling which I have found guarantees that this will happen, and I
believe it may not happen on the first few days of leaving chrome open and
using it regularly, but after a while it happens a lot, and only when I'm
using the mouse wheel to scroll.

I'll get my chrome://gpu information when I'm back in the office next week.

@leese: Request you to provide the "chrome://gpu"? Also if it's not much to ask request you to try the above issue with latest version of chrome "33.0.1750.115" & also with latest driver configurations, which might be the plausible cause in some cases.

Thank you!

I just upgraded to Chrome 34.0.1847.3 and nVidia driver version 331.20 and reproduced the problem.

This should not be difficult to reproduce; I'm using a standard issue Google workstation and I've heard lots of people at work complain about hangs in Chrome on Linux. You have to use it for a little while, but it took me less than an hour of scrolling through GMail after restarting my computer to reproduce this. I do have 24 tabs open, though, so that may be helping to create memory pressure.

@leese: Unfortunately I am unable to reproduce the above issue on Ubuntu 12.04, with chrome version "34.0.1847.3". Request you to try fresh installing the same version & disable all extensions, except default & try reproducing the above issue & let us know if the issue still persists. Also if it's not much to ask could you please try it on some other machine.
Thank you!

Could you provide CrashID or crash dump when the browser hangs.

You can get the CrashID from chrome://crash.
If there is no crash ID on chrome://crash, then please see the following site to get the crash dump :
http://www.chromium.org/for-testers/bug-reporting-guidelines/hanging-tabs
Comment 13 by leese@google.com, Mar 7 2014
chrome://crash causes a crash. chrome://crashes contains crash ids but the
hangs don't cause crashes. I'm not certain if the linked directions apply
since it is all of Chrome that hangs, not just a single tab or window.
Also my linux distro does not include a Task Manager.

If I run "ps -lA | grep chrom" I get:

( ... and lots more with parent process 4340 ... ) I assume the ones with
parent 4340 are the processes for the individual tabs, then 4340 is a
chrome process whose parent is 4281, another chrome process whose parent is
4280, the chrome-sandbox, whose parent is 4134, which is the root chrome
process, and there are a few other chrome processes that have 4134 as their
parent, which might be apps? So next time I get it to hang, which process
should I kill?

I updated to build "35.0.1883.0 (Official Build 256105) dev aura" on Thursday and I have not been able to reproduce this since then.
Status: WontFix
Closing the issue, as per the Comment#17.In future if you find any such issues you can re-open it.
This happens to myself and my daughter frequently. we both are on OSX. We can reproduce at will. Sometimes only takes a minute and Chrome stops responding. I'm using a Microsoft mouse. She's using the apple mouse. My daughter has switched to Firefox. I sometimes switch to Firefox just so I can work
