Need customizable Multi-Line TAB bar

Reported by, Oct 11 2008

Issue description

Product Version :
URLs (if applicable) :
Other browsers tested: Opera
Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
Safari 3:
    Firefox 3: OK
IE 7:

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Add more than 15 or so TABs and the text is no longer visible on the
TABs. If I keep multiple windows with 5-10 TABs each then when I restart, I
do not get all my sessions back (only the last closed window is restored)

This is one of the show stoppers for me to move to Chrome.

What is the expected result?

What happens instead?

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if

Are you still seeing the issue of not seeing all your previously opened tabs on
restart under Chrome's latest build?
Expected result is for the TABs to wrap and the use multiple lines. Currently all the TABs are in a single line
causing them to be unusable if using more than a few, say 5-10.
I am using and the issue still exits. When are you planning to fix this?
Any update on this? What is the ETA for fixing this?

Ben, could you triage?

Comment 7 by, Oct 23 2009

Yes, chrome would be complete for me if tabs could wrap to multiple lines. I have over
30 tabs open in opera right now, and moving to chrome is a bit hard at the moment.

No to multiline. We already have a bug for overflow.

Comment 9 by, Nov 16 2009

So does this mean that chrome will NEVER have a tab bar that can wrap to multiple

Comment 10 by Deleted ...@, Jan 23 2010

Too bad. Chrome is unusable, at least for me, without tabs wrapping to multiple lines,
as I tend to have 30-50 tabs opened...
Quite sad to see such close minded attitude. On top of having one of the most static ui system of all browsers, any request get wontfix'ed... Good job there.

chrome is faster then firefox, but without Multi-Line TAB bar (maybe as plugin), i can't switch from firefox. I mean, even chrome faster, i can't use it power, because my screen resolution permit me open only 11 tabs, if i open more i can't switch between tabs quickly.

Why Won`t Fix? Omg - this a must have for any modern brouser.
20+ tabs it is pain. Seems to I will go back to Opera.

Comment 15 by Deleted ...@, Nov 7 2010

I'll wait for multiple line tabs before I switch to Chrome.
Ben, can you explain why chrome will not see multi-line in the near future?
Desperately need this feature. Why wont fix ?
People do work with 20 pages in the same time or never close page (for further considering) - it is more convenient then having page in Bookmarks.

Comment 19 by Deleted ...@, Feb 20 2011

One more vote for multiline tab !

Comment 20 by Deleted ...@, Mar 4 2011

just do it already.... come on... why is it so hard to make multiple line bookmark bar?

Comment 21 by Deleted ...@, Mar 8 2011

I vote for multiline customizable wrap tab line.

Comment 22 by, Mar 21 2011

Without multiline tabs Chrome is irrelevant and unusable despite nice performance it has.

Comment 23 by, Mar 24 2011

two and a half year passed since request and no progress.
what are they doing in google i wonder if they cant implement such an important feature!

personally, i'm continuing to use opera..

Comment 24 by, Jun 11 2011

Chrome is useless until this is fixed, please reconsider. Try it, open 50-100 tabs, you can't tell which is which anymore. We need multi-row fixed width tabs!

Comment 25 by Deleted ...@, Jul 9 2011

Give us multiple rows of tabs already!

Comment 26 by Deleted ...@, Aug 28 2011

why doesn't google listen to us ?

Comment 27 by, Aug 28 2011

oh one thing changed! i stopped to use opera after i was using it for about 10 years.
now i'm using firefox and am very satisfied
still no place 4 chrome in my heart

Comment 28 by, Oct 27 2011

+1 for Multi Row Tabs, Please add. Cant use Chrome without this feature

Comment 29 by Deleted ...@, Nov 22 2011

+1 for multi row tabs.. or have it atleast be a setting.. I sometimes have so many tabs open that all i see is an X.

Comment 30 by Deleted ...@, Dec 7 2011

+1 for multi row tabs or fixing scrollable tabs, and -1 for ben who is the person responsible for arrogantly perpetuating the current substandard ui 'feature' of invisible unusable tabs

Comment 31 by Deleted ...@, Dec 9 2011

OMG Chrome doesn`t have multiply row tabs, it`s really strange to see this in the end of 2011.
i had to install firefox because of that.

Comment 33 by Deleted ...@, Dec 14 2011

+1 add this function pls, it's the only reason i'm still sitting on FF.

Comment 34 by Deleted ...@, Jan 15 2012

+1 add multirow tabs, its to hard navigate when is so many

Comment 35 by, Jan 30 2012

Being a long time Firefox devotee I finally decided to try out Chrome, but to my amazement I did not discover any means to enable multi-row(line) tabs.

I did not expect this to be available out of the box, but having no 3rd party extensions...?! Does it mean that the inner workings of Chrome simply have no support for that?

If so, this needs to be addressed. Until there is official/3rd party support for multi-row tabs, I cannot even begin to consider using Chrome, as at any one time I have at least 20 tabs opened in Firefox, and cannot imagine my life without multi-row tabs.
