All Overrides Missing from Overrides page in Settings
Reported by nielsjoh...@gmail.com, Nov 4 2013 Back to list
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_7_5) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/32.0.1690.2 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open Developer Tools
2. Click Setting Gear (now in header of dev tools pane)
3. Click Overrides

What is the expected behavior?
You should see all the overrides such as User Agent, Screen Resolution, Geolocation, etc.

What went wrong?
All overrides are missing except a (new to me) "Show 'Emulation' view in console drawer" checkbox. If the overrides were moved somewhere else I cannot find it anywhere in dev tools itself or the documentation.

Did this work before? Yes It has been a few weeks since I used this feature, maybe October 10th? Currently works in stable version of Chrome.

Chrome version: 32.0.1690.2 Channel: canary
OS Version: OS X 10.7.5
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 11.9 r900

I just found the "Emulation" menu in the "drawer". It looks like everything is there. It was very hard to find documentation on the "drawer" but I now see it is mentioned at the bottom of this page:

https://developers.google.com/chrome-developer-tools/docs/settings#experiments

There seems to be no documentation of the new "Emulation" menu.

Sorry if this bug report was a waste of your time.

The described behavior is by design. To Pavel -- perhaps we need a better (more verbose?) wording of the message in the old location?
Comment 3 by caseq@google.com, Nov 4 2013
Just noted we have issue 314405 about the message wording.

I think the drawer is a very bad place to put these things into.
Especially when I have to open (eg.) the source editor, then open the drawer to set the things.
Why not making the drawer-bar available in the console window as well?
This place not very bad, but one thing that really inconvenient with it in my opinion is that you can't open drawer while you doing stuff in console tab.
So it forsing me to use console tab in drawler too, but with this I still need to switching between console and overrides tabs
@Iwasawafag: fixed now, you can open drawer while on Console in the next Canary.

Sorry, I did not follow the solution. I am also facing the issue of missing user agent settings. How can I resolve it?

Thanks,

Kishore

Hi

How can I keep the drawer hidden after refreshing the page?
Hitting ESC everytime is no solution.
@rida: this was a bug that is now fixed.
@pfeld: Thank you for fast answer. Problem still here: Version 32.0.1700.72 m
Yep, but I don't see it here: 34.0.1774.2
Thanks. Maybe silly, though. How can I solve the problem?
Unfortunately, at this point you need to wait for the stable update or switch to Chrome Dev or to Chrome Canary.
@pfeld: Dev shows same  issue 33 .0.1750.18 dev-m

Will try canary now
Corresponding bug for drawer always popping up: issue 328551 .

I've ticked the box, but cannot find the "emulation view" in "console drawer" - something to keep in mind when new wording is worked up for future release.

In the meantime, could someone point me to "emulation view"? (Is it supposed to be one of the tabs in devtools, like "Elements", "Network", "Sources"?)

Ah, re: comment #17, I've found "emulation" view, but it doesn't actually pop-up on "ESC" when you're in console. Only shows up when your'e in the other tabs of devtools. Bug?
It's pretty bad when this is the page I had to read through IOT find where the user agent settings went... especially since no tabs show up under the console tab (you have to hit "Show Console" on any other tab)! I'm sure there was some design logic behind moving this, at least I hope so, but anyway I can confirm same issue as comment #18 on stable.
Comment 20 by Deleted ...@, Jan 28 2014
@#19 I completely agree with this, has taken me a good ten minutes to actually fine the emulation tab. Some kind of notification telling you its available on the Console tray would at least be a start. Further to that showing the emulation tab within the full console would also make a lot of sense. Depending what I'm doing I don't always switch over to the "tray" view.

Where can i find the geolocation override? I used it just two weeks ago, now it's not there.
@ebarry: Console drawer (Esc) -> Emulation -> Sensors
Comment 23 by Deleted ...@, Feb 4 2014
Wanted to give my $.02 and say this is a terrible UI change. Having the UA override in the console area is confusing to begin with. But the fact that clicking the word "Console" does not give the emulation tab, but clicking the console icon does give the tab just seems completely broken.
I have the same problem, I can not see the Emulation tab event I have checked to "Show Emulation in Console drawer"
Comment 25 by Deleted ...@, Feb 20 2014
I had to click on "Sources" tab, then click Esc to bring up the console in that window.

Really, it's terrible way to access it! Surely emulation should be a tab at the top of the developer tools, along with elements, sources, console, etc.?

Please move it to the top!
What the hell? I've been looking all around settings panel for user-agent dropdown like it used to be. I finally found it by Googling for this ticket and following #25 advice: "I had to click on "Sources" tab, then click Esc to bring up the console in that window." This is terrible. Please change it back. Thanks!
Not only click drawer, i have to adjust the Emulation window height to know there's something underground.

Really stupid design, every few months i will forget this flow and wasting my time to Google again. Why the hell not put on Settings ? The design is purposely to be a maze.
