no canvas gpu acceleration on Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family

Reported by dtclisti...@gmail.com, Feb 24 2013 Back to list

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1) AppleWebKit/537.22 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/25.0.1364.97 Safari/537.22

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Windows XP, any Intel(R) GMA 3100 GPU
2. attempt all blacklist-disabling and hardware accel. enables
3. observe still no 2D canvas acceleration

What is the expected behavior?
The Intel(R) GMA 3100 chip's latest driver 6.14.10.5218 is from Jan 2010. Chrome should be able to hardware accelerate the 2D Canvas.

What went wrong?
Even ignoring all blacklisting the rest of the features obtain hardware acceleration but not the 2D canvas

Canvas: Software only. Hardware acceleration disabled.
Compositing: Hardware accelerated on all pages
3D CSS: Hardware accelerated
CSS Animation: Accelerated
WebGL: Hardware accelerated
WebGL multisampling: Hardware accelerated
Flash 3D: Hardware accelerated
Flash Stage3D: Hardware accelerated
Texture Sharing: Hardware accelerated
Video Decode: Hardware accelerated
Video: Hardware accelerated
Panel Fitting: Unavailable. Hardware acceleration disabled.
Force Compositing Mode: Hardware accelerated

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 25.0.1364.97 Channel: beta
OS Version: 5.1 (Windows XP)

Forgot to mention

This is a fully updated XP service pack 3 install, with all drivers updated to latest directly form Intel. BIOS flashed to latest version from manufacturer.

This is working as intended. Since we have no way to recover from context loss on XP, and it happens quite often (e.g., when the screensaver kicks in), we cannot ensure that the canvas's contents won't be lost.
