I have this problem on Lenovo E420 notebook with Intel / Radeon video card combination and 1366x768 resolution.

I turned the pepflashplayer.dll off. It helps on some websites, but on many other websites problem still remains.

My GPU info in HP Pavilion dv6,....I have the same issue with the scroll bar but additionally (not sure if the following issue was described before) the problem is also that the content is displayed at the left side where it really is, to select an object I need to point at the righ of the object with the mouse.

Comment 166 by nasudaya...@gmail.com, Aug 19 2012

On Google Chrome Version 21.0.1180.81 beta-m, I have had a very similar issue but except instead of double scroll bars i have a black bar that goes on on the right side of the scroll bar to the right and i found someone that had the same situation (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120818061223AAOJcrt). I have tried to disable PepperFlash\pepflashplayer.dll but when i did so after it was disabled i went on youtube and adobe but it ended up freezing. Is this the same problem with everyone else and do you think this will be solved soon.

may i ask how is the status for this issue is "fixed" while we still have the problem on our computers, or if it is already fixed please state clearly how it is fixed; what we need to do to avoid having this problem.

Thanks for the efforts again

Comment 170 by elvinz...@gmail.com, Aug 19 2012

I use a Dell Inspiron 1464, ATI Radeon 4330 GPU if I'm not mistaken... I have a black strip to the right of the webpage instead of the scroll bar most are seeing. I do use a two screens but currently it has only happened when I detach my external monitor. It has only happened on Youtube. So I changed my display mode through Fn+F2 to Computer Only and it solved the problem. I've attached my about:gpu.

Nope, came back again. Disabled pepperflash and that seems to have solved the problem.

using 21.0.1180.81 beta-m
and i have the same problem

Comment 174 by cowp...@gmail.com, Aug 19 2012

I've had this problem for a couple weeks, too.

Chrome version: 21.0.1180.79 m
Disabling the Pepper Flash plugin seems to resolve it for now.
Prior to disabling the plugin, resizing did not help the situation.
Screen resolution: 1366 x 768
Browser window maximized.

Update: disabling the Pepper Flash plugin seems to have worked only temporarily -- the problem is starting to return.

I have the same issue with the black bar coming on the right. The scroll bar gets moved left, page contents squashed horizontally, and you can still use the scroll bar by putting the mouse where it normally is!

Comment 178 by bruno...@gmail.com, Aug 19 2012

I was using chrome in a second monitor with different resolution. When I took it to the other monitor that bug happened.

Disabling PepperFlash seems to have fixed the issue.

I'm having this problem too!!!

Comment 183 by wiltzius@chromium.org, Aug 20 2012

Folks, please refrain from "me too" type comments -- if you're interested in adding a vote to this and keeping track, please star the bug.

If you'd like to help get the issue identified, try the following:

- Make sure you're using Chrome 21.1180.81 or later (you can check at about:version). Right now that means you'll need to be on the beta channel.
- If you are, and you still have the double scrollbar problem, please post your version, your about:gpu contents, and any other specific details you can.
- Regardless of version, if you're having a different problem (such as black scrollbars), please file a separate bug! This bug does not cover every scrollbar problem; rather it's about a specific scrollbar problem on certain GPUs.

Running 21.0.1180.83 (Official Build 152131) beta-m. Claimed to be fixed but still a problem. Depending on the width of the browser it comes and goes. Looks like some kind modulus thing happening too the scaling.

We have a fix for this issue but we had to disable it in 21.0.1180.83 because it broke something else. Hopefully we'll be able to try again soon.

Comment 195 by chaz...@yahoo.com, Aug 25 2012

for the record it seems like 21.0.1180.83 made the problem worse.
If I maximize and then resize back I have no usable scrolbar as well as a blank area on right side of the web page.
Also besides the scrollbar my mouse position is totally hosed as well.
extremely annoying. If it does not fixed soon I guess I will have to can chrome. Pretty sad.

Comment 198 by vangelis@google.com, Aug 28 2012

Folks, before you switch to a different browser please try chrome canary or switch to the beta channel. A fix has been applied to both and we're now deliberating whether it's safe enough to push it on the stable channel too.

Thanks @vange
I was using Canary, but I will test the beta version again and post my results.

Comment 200 by vangelis@google.com, Aug 28 2012

michael@ if you seeing double scrollbars on canary (chrome 23) then we may not have fixed the problem. Can you please post here the contents of your about:gpu page?

Comment 201 by Deleted ...@, Aug 28 2012

@vange, sorry I wasn't very clear on that. The problem has been gone in Canary, but last time I checked beta the problem was still there.

I've posted my gpu info a couple times further up the list. I'll let you know what I discover.

Comment 203 by Deleted ...@, Aug 28 2012

The problem appears to be fixed in 22.0.1229.14 beta-m

Thanks for everyone's work on this! You all are awesome!

Comment 204 by nickille...@gmail.com, Aug 29 2012

hey i downloaded both chrome beta(Version 22.0.1229.14 beta-m) and canary. i opened a page following the download of the beta and the problem persisted after reloading the page. i noticed i needed to close chrome and reopen in order to finish updating that was an 'ahhh' moment where i felt like an idiot.
i reopened chrome (i have it set to reopen tabs i closed with) and the page which loaded incorrectly the first time was fixed, but another page had an issue, youtube. I know what your'e going to say 'hey that's a different problem!' but i figure it's closely related enough that it fits here, i figure it is related in a similar manner to the scroll bar issue in that it is a different size but making it a window fixed it.i assume it's something to do with the resolution changes perhaps made to fix the scroll bar problem.
As it turns out i just made it a smaller window and maximised it and now its gone, it won't even happen when its fullscreen and reloaded so hopefully it doesnt come back. however since i started this i figure i'll finish it. issue was apparent in chrome beta only, same url in canary(Version 23.0.1247.1 canary) worked fine. i have attached an image to help anyone, i have already posted gpu stats

sorry for double post but couldn't see an edit button anywhere. i tried http://www.webkit.org/blog/386/3d-transforms/
which previously showed double scroll bar with pepper flash disabled and now looks fine with it enabled so seems to have fixed the issue.

Comment 206 by Deleted ...@, Aug 29 2012

@nickille, I've had that similar problem that usually occurs when I have the developer tools open in one tab and switch to another tab. I have not done enough troubleshooting to nail down the exact circumstances, but I think it is somewhat related to this issue as it started to show up about the same time the double scrollbar showed up.

Does anyone know if a new issue has been filed?

This issue is still reproducible. See attachment

Build Used : 21.0.1180.87
But cannot reproduce this in Beta 22.0.1229.26 & canary

Steps
====
1. Launch Chrome
2. Navigate to http://webkit.org/blog-files/3d-transforms/poster-circle.html
3. Resize the window horizontally
4. At one point u will hit the double scroll bar

Tried this in systems with following GPU Cards.

Reproducible
============
Intel(R) HD Graphics Family ( AMD)
8.940.0.0

Not Reproducible
==================
Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (Driver Version 8.15.10.1930)

Comment 209 by siedeen@chromium.org, Aug 29 2012

@ligimole, does the issue repro when you have the Norton Identity Protection extension disabled?

Comment 210 by vangelis@google.com, Aug 29 2012

I doubt this is at all related to Norton.

nickillerbysmith@, michael : Would one of you mind filing a separate bug for the blue borders issue? We think that:

http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome?view=rev&revision=150682

may have fix it but would like to track it separately from this bug and possibly back-merge the fix to 22. Thanks!

Comment 211 by vangelis@google.com, Aug 29 2012

Ooops I take this back. We already have an issue for it. It's issue 144724 . Thanks!

Comment 212 by jbau...@chromium.org, Aug 29 2012

Maybe we could only do the workaround on older driver versions (I don't know the precise dividing line, but it's somewhere around Oct 2011). Or we could try forcing chrome onto the integrated gpu and turning on the image transport surface.

the machine has Intel(R) HD Graphics Family card. I was able to reproduce the black bar issue and double bar issue.

in 87:
-launch Chrome
-go to http://webkit.org/blog-files/3d-transforms/poster-circle.html
-observe BLACK bar by side of the scroll bar
-resize/maximize/unmaximize the browser window
-observe the DOUBLE SCROLL BAR issue

but in 84, and today's 89 after revert the changelist:
both issue went away on the 3d-css page :
http://webkit.org/blog-files/3d-transforms/poster-circle.html

all tests are done on the same win 7 machine with gpu info in previous comment.

I downloaded canary and beta and I have to say it's even worse as on Stable! On canary all sites are BLACK and on beta only sites with flash are BLACK! Once again I'm attaching gpu and screenshot of canary!

Comment 226 by vangelis@chromium.org, Sep 4 2012

At this point, given the variability in behavior of the various AMD Hybrid GPUs, we decided not to try and patch the stable channel (chrome 21) with a fix that could have unintended side-effects. #225 this is the first report we're getting about black screens in Beta and Canary.

jbauman@ black screens used to be the behavior of the non-xp path on hybrid gpus. Did something change in beta/canary that would switch us over to that path for this gpu?

Comment 227 by jbau...@chromium.org, Sep 4 2012

The driver version in that report is really old, so it's possible that it doesn't include the components that we're using to detect whether it's switchable graphics, and we assume it isn't.

metod.ribic: Could you get us a copy of about:gpu from chrome canary or beta so I can confirm this and try to fix it?

I just rememberd that I never in that period of time when I had this problem tried to change the gpu, so I ran the Catalyst control center and on my suprise there was notification that Chorme is on Power saving option! Have no idea how that happend!!! After I changed to High Performance, Stable AND Canary works fine! But i'm attaching about:gpu from canary when it was all black anyway so you could see what happent there..

Thank you guys for all your support and sorry for my poor english :)!

Hmm, looks like we're not detecting that it's switchable graphics, for some reason. I suppose we could always check whether it's an Intel PCI ID (on an AMD driver) and detect it anyway.

I'm curious why putting it on High Performance fixed the bug, and putting it on Power saving breaks it, as I thought the opposite was normally true.

We believe this is fixed in Chrome 22 or later. Unfortunately the patch was too large and intrusive to be backported into the stable channel (21). If you are affected by this issue, your options for the next few weeks are:
1. Switch to the chrome beta channel (currently chrome 22)
2. Use chrome canary which can be installed side-by-side with chrome stable

albertovr@ and helldemonz@ : there's not a whole lot of content in the chrome_gpu html files you attached. How did you save it out? Can you please go to the about:gpu page and simply copy-paste the contents in this bug?

Moving back to fixed, as we're done with 21, and this is ok on 22.

Upgraded to 22. Everything seems to (finally) be working fine again. Thanks!

For those who don't know where to get 22, here you go: https://www.google.com/landing/chrome/beta/

I am having the scroll bar issue with CH21. I found that leaving the browser in full screen makes the scroll bars get tighter each time I open the browser, in full screen. By adjusting the screen size of the browser the scroll bars go away. Instead of maximizing the browser I dragged the corner to enlarge the browser but not to full screen. Then chrome://gpu is attached

Hi all,

My laptop is: HP PAvilion DV6 6151ss.

I've been having this problem with the two scroll bars since middle August.. I even did a format and also tried to update the graphic drivers (just tried, because as soon as I downloaded them and tried to execute the installation, a Windows error message appeared and said that my laptop did not have the minimum requirements... I downloaded the drivers from HP website, after selecting the model of my laptop!:S)

If you can help, it will be awesome. Thank you!

Folks now that Chrome 22 has gone to stable these issues should be evaporating. At this point we're only interested in reports from machines with Chrome 22 on them; the last several examples are all still from Chrome 21. You can check your chrome version in about:version. At this point please just be patient and wait for Chrome to update. If you still have the problem on Chrome 22, please post saying as much.
