Users have been reporting in the Chrome help forum that they are no longer seeing a globe icon in the omnibox, but instead they see a "blank page" icon. See attached screenshot.

Repro steps:
1. Update to latest Chrome Stable
2. Navigate to a previously visited site (i.e.
3. Notice that the icon in the address bar is no longer a globe icon, but a "blank page" icon

@pkasting, can you confirm if the icon change is:
(1)meant to replace the "globe" icon?
(2)does the definition from the "globe" icon translate accurately to the new "blank page" icon? Are there additional changes?

Help center articles that describe the "globe" icon:

Yes, this new icon is intentional. There is no semantic change.

Will there be a better icon in the future, because honestly this new blank page icon feels broken, and is definitely not as nice as the globe that chrome had in the past.

If the icon is going to stay that way, is there a way to change it to one of my own images? ( Because its really bothering me, and I don't want to use a web browser that makes me feel uncomfortable. )
From personal experience: live with it a couple more weeks, and at that point you won't notice anymore. (But no, to answer your question, there is not such a way.)

I really don't like this new icon. It's ugly and it makes me think that something is wrong with a website. There is seriously nothing to replace it with?

I think that the problem doesn't rely only on design. I knew that the blank page icon indicate that there is no SSL connection, so if the blank page icon is used for every site i won't understand if there is SSL connection or not.
This icon is still a lock for HTTPS.

UPDATE: It seems that the icon is official now. Look here...

What? Are they seriously going to leave it like this? I hate it, I work on my computer all day and this just throws me, it might seem like a small thing but it is fucking with my Feng Shui. Back to Firefox it seems.
The blank page icon is horrible. Bring back the nice globe icon, please.

In an ideal world, every site would be HTTPS so we'd never see it, but that isn't the case and it's a major eyesore. I thought Chrome was supposed to be moving forwards in design, not backwards.
