Chrome does not allow applications to play HTML5 audio without an explicit action by the user, which is different than how stock browser handles it.

Reported by ja...@xhatch.com, Jul 19 2012

Issue description

Chrome Version: 20.0.1132.57
Application Version (from "Chrome Settings > About Chrome"):
URLs (if applicable): http://ss.xhatch.com (simple example test page)

From "Android Settings > About Phone/Tablet"
Build number: Android 4.1.1
Device: Nexus 7

Behavior in Android Browser (if applicable):
- Audio plays automatically without interference by the browser.

Steps to reproduce:
- Use https://developers.google.com/chrome/mobile/docs/debugging approach for console if needed.

1. Open http://ss.xhatch.com in Chrome on Android.
2. HTML5 Audio sound should play automatically
3. But, stalled event is triggered on the sound, stopping playback.
4. Users can click the play button to play the track without the stalled event being fired.

- The end result is that Chrome does not allow applications to play HTML5 audio without an explicit action by the user, similar to how it is handled by iOS, but differently than the stock Android browser handles it.

This is intended. Autoplay is not honored on android as it will cost data usage.

Comment 7 by ma...@google.com, Jul 20 2012

How is one supposed to develop a HTML5 game with audio in this situation? How is that reasoning different from a Native Android app using autoplay?

Comment 8 by qin...@chromium.org, Jul 20 2012

you can load a lot of empty <audio> tags on first user gesture, and then later on change the src attribute.
