Print and Print Preview ignore paper size default in printer config
Reported by silvermo...@gmail.com, Jul 1 2012 Back to list
Chrome Version : 22.0.1191.1 canary
URLs (if applicable) :
Other browsers tested:
Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
     Safari 5: OK
  Firefox 4.x: OK
       IE 7/8/9: n/a

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. In Windows, configure a printer to a small paper size (in my case, 80 x 297mm receipt roll)
2. Print a page designed for narrow paper (eg. restricted to 709mm width)

What is the expected result?
Print preview shows content using full width of narrow paper.
Printer output uses full printable width of paper. (photo 2.JPG)

What happens instead?
Print preview shows content in corner of a large-format (A4 or US-Letter) page.
Print output is scaled to fit 8.5" wide content onto 80mm wide paper; actual 70mm-wide content is squished into very small area of receipt roll. (photo 1.JPG)

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
* This is a regression; printing HTML to receipt printers worked correctly in Canary 21.
* Paper size is correct in Chrome 22.0.1191.1 canary on Mac OSX
* Computer is Win XP SP3
* Printer is EPSON TM-T88V receipt printer

kmadhusu@, could this be a side effect of the fit to page stuff
abodenha@: Sounds like a regression. I don't think it is related to fit to page stuff. Looks like, whenever we change the printers, we are no longer fetching/updating the backend with selected printer capabilities. I will take a look.

Could someone please provide a review of whether this bug is present in the current stable release (21.0.1180.57)? I have a client who appears to be suffering from this exact issue after updating to the release mentioned before.
If the issue is confirmed as present in the current stable, can you confirm whether or not the resolution is already merged into the next release, and a possible release date?
In the business my client runs, this is a major issue.
Comment 12 by kareng@google.com, Aug 3 2012
yes we believe it is. Is it already merged and hopefully will go out soon. I apologize that I cannot give a date just yet.
freezey@: We pushed a potential fix on our Canary version (a bleeding edge testing version of Chrome) and want to verify if this fixes the issue for you. If you're experiencing it, can you install Chrome Canary (which is on version 22.0.1225.0 right now) and let us know if it resolves this problem for you?

You can install Chrome Canary by going to https://tools.google.com/dlpage/chromesxs/. It runs side-by-side with your existing Chrome version, so you do NOT need to uninstall Chrome first.

Note: After verifying this fix for us, we also don't advise continuing to use Chrome Canary in place of your regular web browsing unless you're comfortable with instability and unpredictable behavior (it is meant for developers and early adopters).

I had the same problem. Canary with the problem is solved.
Checked the Canary version and the page size is OK over there. (from some reason the header and footer's font size was changed but thats not the issue).
Can you someone please explain if this can by pushed into the current stable version of Chrome (21) or do we have to wait for stable 22 ?

Also have troubles from time to time with label printers - will check the Canary release if the problems are solved for me as well.
(came here from http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=122524)
As with version 22 in Canary channel there is still the following problem:
- If you change the printer to a printer with different page size, page size does NOT change.
- If you uncheck fit to page and check it again the page size is as suggested.
When changing the printer Chrome should update the page size.
Plus chrome does not remember the fit to page setting which can be very annoying.
Sorry that I have to post again. Canary 22:
No matter if I check or uncheck fit to page the size of the print out does not look properly sized:
- fit to page -> print out is too small - like if margin was added
- no fit to page -> print out is like if position was changed to minus something (-0,3cm left and -0,3cm top)
Issue 140595 has been merged into this issue.
I've filed issue 140830 , issue 140827 , and issue 140826 based on your comments evilazaroth.

Please don't attach new issues to existing bugs. It makes it MUCH more difficult for us to track and address issues.

benklipper we do plan to push this to Stable but it won't be for a little while. I will let you know when it's out on Stable channel.
