Chrome Version : 20.0.1132.47

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Appending "--enable-aero-peek-tabs" to a Google Chrome shortcut

What is the expected result?
When multiple tabs are open, previews appear on the Windows 7 taskbar for each tab.

What happens instead?
Only one preview appears for the current tab.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
Worked in older versions of Chrome.

Reproducible on 22.0.1190.0 Canary.
This feature has been annulled. Please see http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=8036#c120 .
Comment 3 by Deleted ...@, Jul 6 2012
Are you serious? Am I to understand that Chrome will no longer have these tab previews...? That option being added is *the* reason I switched from Firefox...
By removing the support for Aero Peek, the devs were only thinking of power users with 20+ tabs who might find it annoying. For the average users, like myself, who keeps 5-10 tabs open at a time, Aero Peek is the best thing since sliced bread.

This removal already forced me to change to Opera only because it, along with every other major browser, realizes the importance of this function and supports it. Why can't the devs here see it?
I'll definitely be moving back to IE. Aero peek is absolutely essential.

There were at least 5 stars on this issue, in the last 90 days, we should review.
as a power user and with a little knowlege of usability, as the number of tabs grow, i can walk trough the list to go to a specific tab (useing the previews) or use alt + tab to switch to the last tab used (the browser window). so it's not a problem for me, and i think for the average user it also isn't. this been activated by a flag (i miss the checkbox on the settings menu) allow me to decide what to do, if i want it or not, the behavior of other browsers (even IE).
Comment 8 by jarag...@gmail.com, Aug 16 2012
I've spent the last few hours trying to fix this in every way imaginable, and now I come here finding out they removed it.

Great.
Comment 9 by jarag...@gmail.com, Aug 16 2012
Okay uh, it doesn't work in Firefox either.. What the hell is going on.
Does anyone have it working on firefox? I googled like a hound and can find nothing, so I'm posting here since it seems I'm not the only one who switched back to firefox.
Comment 10 by sot...@gmail.com, Aug 16 2012
I wanted to use Chrome but had to switch back to Firefox because this is a "must-have" feature for me. I can't believe the developers took it away. It's the only reason I'm not using Chrome. Anyway, it does work in Firefox. To enable: Options/Tabs/Select "Show tab previews in the windows taskbar".
Comment 11 by jarag...@gmail.com, Aug 20 2012
Oh my [wait i don't have god], thank you so much, Sot! Switching to firefox WOOT!
Yeah. I just said woot. I'm oldschool.
It's a pity that this feature just has been dropped. Any chance to see this functionality in an extension?
Yeah...switching to Firefox until this gets changed.
Comment 14 by Deleted ...@, Oct 16 2012
It will be interesting to see how long it takes the marvels at Google to notice and repair this. You'd think it would be very quick, but let's see. It just stopped today for me -- October 16 in Thailand (if that matters).
Comment 15 by Deleted ...@, Oct 26 2012
Same here, going to FF until this is fixed, working with 20+ tabs open without it is a horrible experience.
Comment 16 by gav...@gmail.com, Oct 27 2012
Wow. I can't believe this feature has been dropped because those so called "power users" disliked it. Every other major browser on the market supports the Aero Peek function. The latest of Firefox, IE, Safari 5, and Opera. Only Safari does not have the option to disable it, but they don't care about Windows users anyway since there are no more new versions of their browser on Windows.
Why not simply make it an option like in Firefox? This way it's won't annoy those who do not want it.

I absolutely adored this feature. I hate to have to switch back to Mozilla Firefox, it's start-up time is so slow compared to Google Chrome. I really hope the devs put the feature back.
Comment 19 by Deleted ...@, Nov 13 2012
seriosuly can you devs hear this^ put it back, what were you thinking!!
Comment 20 by Deleted ...@, Nov 13 2012
i am not going to have to move my house to a small chrome icon, then have to move it to the other side of the screen like every 2 mins
Comment 21 by dma...@gmail.com, Nov 20 2012
Really ?!?
Chrome team doesn't care about it this dropped feature!!
Comment 22 by Deleted ...@, Nov 23 2012
This was a STUPID decision. Why just remove it instead of making it an option?
Ugh. The dev team is stupid. Off to Firefox, or maybe give Opera another go.
Comment 24 by Deleted ...@, Nov 29 2012
Disabling aero peek was a complete stupid decision. Explanation given by dev is completely foolish. If this feature is not reverted back, I will be off from chrome for ever.
Comment 25 by Deleted ...@, Dec 4 2012
Seriously, who decided to scrap this? Why not keep it as an option? You've got to be kidding.
Comment 26 by Deleted ...@, Dec 19 2012
Google is getting FAT like Microsoft.
Google, please quit forcing opinions on your users. I thank you that you fixed the long-standing problem of that horrible instant search re-activating itself, but you took a very deliberate step in a very wrong direction with this change.

Please add it back. I love Chrome with all my heart, but this is just unacceptable. It was already bad enough that you had to basically hack it into existence with a flag, rather than having a simple option in settings, but I'm baffled as to why you took a step backwards by removing it, rather than a step forward by properly integrating it... Google pls.
And look! Look up in the comments!! You're making people go back to Internet Explorer! INTERNET EXPLORER, the bane of the internet! As a web developer, this hurts. This cuts deeply to my soul that people are opting to use the most compliance-disregarding browser in existence, rather than the best one in existence, simply because this problem is "not worth fixing."
Comment 29 by hmor...@gmail.com, Dec 21 2012
seems that they don't care...
Is that so difficult to make an option?

Chrome gives me the best internet surfing experience, everything works smooth and that feels really comfortable.(Mostly for JS animation. If you have "Chromium Wheel Smooth Scroller" extension installed, you will get the BEST scrolling experience between all the PC browsers)

But at the same time, chrome has few options. I can't even setup a proxy for chrome without extension. Why you try to hide everything from users? I don't think this is what an opensource software should be. Is this still the Google I loved?

Well, I'm going back to Mozilla Firefox until you find out you should pay attention to all the users instead of only to those "power users". The ONLY reason I switched from FF to Chrome is that Chrome can provide me a better smoother experience. As for now, I can't see if there is anything Chrome does better than FF.

Opensource means freedom. Are you, Google, going to be another M$?
Comment 31 Deleted
WHY? Why did you take this away Google?
And so many people have commented about re-adding the feature!
Is it really that difficult to make it an option?
Comment 33 by Deleted ...@, Jan 29 2013
I also dropped by to check how to enable Aero Peek previews, and like others, am surprised to find it has been "discontinued".
Please, resume the support of this feature, since it's essential to the overall integration with the OS (as others have pointed out, ALL other major browsers have it)
Comment 34 by dma...@gmail.com, Feb 2 2013
Yes, when are we going to get this feature. All other browsers are able to do it and it's surprising why Chrome dropped it!
Comment 35 by Deleted ...@, Feb 11 2013
I think exactly the same as RadarN, I can't believe that they don't give the users the option to just activate it or not, it's really basic.
Just create an option in the Advanced Settings. This makes browsing so much more efficient!
Comment 37 by Deleted ...@, Mar 8 2013
The lack of this feature is truly silly. I find it pretty much impossible to manage my tabs quickly without this feature. I recently switched to Chrome because of the development environment, but the lack of aero peek (and several other Windows 7/8 features) has me switching back to my Opera and my new favorite IE10.
Comment 38 by Deleted ...@, Mar 8 2013
It is not understandable why you dropped the feature. It shall be put back as an option and whoever wants it can use, others disable. Then everyone would be happy.
I find it more important than many of the new features, as aero peek is a feature that makes a tabbed browser much usable.

Put this option in the settings section in chrome. It wouldn't cause any problem as the users are in control whether to activate this feature or not. Just treat it like the android version of chrome where you have the option to view a page in desktop view like "request desktop site". The users have the option to view the site in mobile view or desktop view. As for this aero peek view of the tabs, for me it is very convenient as I can navigate quickly to my desired tab in Google Chrome.(if this is set as a feature)
Comment 41 by Deleted ...@, Apr 14 2013
is anyone able t get anyone from the dev team for chrome here, we can show them how much we all need it:D
Comment 42 by Deleted ...@, Apr 22 2013
chrome team...count me as an additional user that would like to see this returned.
Comment 43 by Deleted ...@, May 15 2013
Without aero peek, i'm back to firefox even though i'd rather use chrome. All it takes is one off-putting thing like this to make people give up
Comment 44 by Deleted ...@, May 25 2013
I would also like to see this feature returned!

Perhaps make it optional for people to disable it with a checkbox and a browser restart?
Come back!!!!!!!!!
Also want this feature back!
This needs to come back.
Comment 48 by Deleted ...@, Aug 26 2013
How is it that this still has not been reinstated? Please work on enabling this soon.
Yes, please add this again, even in the "broken" way that it was before, I find it very, very usefull.
Comment 50 by Deleted ...@, Oct 2 2013
I am a dyed-in-the-wool IE user, but have been encouraged to give Chrome a try. This is day one, and I feel this issue is a deal-breaker. It seems like such a simple thing. Make it an option for people to turn on and off according to their preferences.
Comment 51 by Deleted ...@, Jan 12 2014
aDD THIS AGAIN AS AN OPTION. WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM ON DOING IT?
I also want to see this feature return. It doesn't make sense to have such an emphasis on chrome apps running on top of windows without an easy way to get to them.
Comment 53 by Deleted ...@, May 3 2014
Please bring Aero Peek previews back! I cant handle IE but i love the Aero Peek previews so I'm stock with IE..
Comment 54 by Deleted ...@, May 28 2014
I agree. This is a deal breaker for me. Really got used to Aero peek in IE, would love to use Chrome but looks like it's back to IE for me.
Haven't been back to Chrome in ages. The latest IE is quite nice and now
with a proper, and free adblock for it, there's no need at all to go back
to Chrome.
Comment 56 by boar...@gmail.com, Jul 3 2014
Firefox have an option for this, it's default for IE, it makes no sense to me why Chrome has not matched up.
Comment 57 by dgy...@gmail.com, Aug 9 2014
Still waiting for this to be put back in. It's super annoying to not be able to find my browser tabs using peek in the taskbar!
I'd like to encourage my users to try Chrome, but am reluctant to do so without the aero-peek feature of tabs that they are used to with IE and Firefox.
Just saw a tutorial to enable this with the --enable-aero-peek-tabs flag. Unfortunately it doesn't work now - would love to try this as it seems super useful!
Pushing again, this is a feature that makes it easier to have only 1 'main' Chrome instance open.
How is this no longer a feature. Please bring back tab previews for Windows 7.
They're never going to add this feature..it's been YEARS.

Give up.
Problem here is that developers are telling us how we should use our browsers, which is the exact opposite of how it should be. See the closing comment on https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=8036 which basically tells us that we don't need it on small amount of tabs and it's not worth the drawbacks.

And that is completely wrong. I need Aero Peek even with just two tabs. For example, if I don't have my browser visible, it's Aero Peek that I use to immediately open the browser on correct tab. Without Aero Peek, I need to bring the browser to the front first which is an unnecessary step and takes time.

I'd take the mentioned drawbacks any day if it brings me Aero Peek. And besides, all other major browsers handle Aero Peek just fine.

So, I'm not giving up.

I mean is it has been 3 years and they have not done anything to change this. There's no point posting comments anymore. They very obviously do not care.

Switch browsers or stop complaining about it.

It is what it is.
Have to agree there. I switched to IE11 to get the tab previews back and
after discovering it had--finally--proper adblocking as effective as the
addons for Chrome and FF, I haven't looked back.
To hell with Chrome. Honestly.
Comment 66 by Deleted ...@, May 29 2015
Still not working in Chrome 45.x Canary
It's now 2015 and Chrome is the only browser on the market that can't do what other browsers have been doing successfully for the past five years without any problems.

"Hurr, it uses too much CPU and RAM!"

Guess that's why Opera, Firefox, and even Internet Explorer, yes, IE: the worst, most dysfunctional, most antiquated browser does it successfully. This is an absolute shame to the Chromium team. Do you realize how incompetent this makes your developers look?

What does this mean for the future of Chrome? Are you going to do this with new technology that comes along with future OSes?

"Guys, there's this really cool, nifty feature we can totally take advantage of and make our browser super awesome, but we're to skip on it because a few people are really stubborn and don't like change."

This is a real disappointment, and I say this as a dedicated Google user of nearly all their products. I cannot fathom how the Chrome developers actually insist that aero peek, technology from over five years ago, isn't worth pursuing and is best left abandoned. It's absolutely mind blowing.

Sorry Google. You messed up bad on this call. Hopefully you will see the error of your ways someday.
