blacklist stage3d in pepper flash on linux and chrome os
Project Member Reported by, May 26 2012 Back to list
The driver situation on linux and chrome os isn't good enough for us to enable stage3d there currently.

I've handed some reproduction cases for the crashes to marcheu@, so hopefully the chromeos driver situation will improve soon.

Note that chromeos bypass blacklist totally.

Blacklists Stage3D on Linux and Chrome OS.

Now I have to check and see whether flash stage3d was actually blacklisted on chrome os, or whether that has to be done manually.
Status: Fixed
Apparently the blacklist works fine on chrome os, so this is done.

Can we re-enable stage 3d for Chrome OS yet? The Linux Intel Mesa driver has surely improved since this bug was filed (May 2012). I've been having a great time with it on my Ubuntu laptop, including the occasional Flash stage 3d content.
We've already reenabled stage3d on Chrome OS for R25 - see issue 163229.

Enable hardware acceleration for Nouveau and Stage3D

Nouveau has improved a LOT in the 3+ years since it was originally
blacklisted. This patch removes the blacklist if the user is running
Mesa 10.1 or higher. We can set the version requirement even higher
if you think that's best. I've been testing with Mesa 10.5.1 and
haven't ran into any crashes or instability. The same thing was done
for AMD GPUs running Mesa drivers last year:

This also removes the blacklist for Stage3D on Linux (was blacklisted
across all GPUs.) Maybe at one time it was broken but it seems to work
just fine now on all the demos I've tried and with massive performance
increases from the hardware acceleration.
