html5 slides disappear when in fullscreen

Project Member Reported by ericbidelman@chromium.org, Apr 16 2012

Issue description

Mac 20.0.1104.0 canary:
1. Visit http://bleedinghtml5.appspot.com/
2. press 'f' to go to fullscreen.

The slide deck disappears! Seems like a layer ordering issue.

Stable (Mac 18.0.1025.163) works fine.

Cc: nduca@chromium.org enne@chromium.org jam...@chromium.org
I don't think this is a layer sorting / 3d CSS issue.

In fact, on osx, for many other pages (such as apple.com/iphone, which requires GPU compositing, but does not have any 3d perspective layers) everything goes black when doing "enter presentation mode". NOTE: the shortcut to exit presentation mode is shift-cmd-f. I got stuck in full screen presentation mode because of this =)

On linux, the bleedinghtml5 URL the background seems to disappear, but the slide layers still seem to remain.

I'm not sure who to forward this to. CCing James, Nat, and Enne, in case they know.

+cc some people wise in the ways of fullscreen

Comment 3 by bbudge@chromium.org, Apr 16 2012

On Windows, the background goes black but I can still see the slides.

I also see a black background when going fullscreen on windows. I suspect that this is because we're running out of texture budget and hopefully will stop happening after Dana's patch.

@vclarke bisected and found this (or very similar..) regression between 20.0.1102 and 20.0.1103
Correction to #7 Issue 123911 regression is between 20.0.1101.0 and 20.0.1102.0, but 123911 seems to be mac 10.6 only.
bisect on Mac 10.6.8

You are probably looking for build 132207.

CHANGELOG URL:

Built at revision:
http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome?view=rev&revision=132207

(note: this is the same regression window as Issue 123911 )
Note: issue does not reproduce on Mac 10.7.2
Does not repro on linux :(
danakj@ I was able to repro the black background on fullscreen (but not the disappearing slides) on linux.
Oh ok, thanks shawn. I see the background too.
One of the Chromium CLs looks suspicious but is Mac only so wouldn't explain why Windows also has an issue:
http://codereview.chromium.org/10037008

Out of the WebKit CLs, two are suspicious:
https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83770
https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83808

The first is Qt so it looks like the second could be the problem.
Running with --show-composited-layer-borders shows that nothing is OOM. The tiles are present, just have black contents. Probably a rendering bug.. bisecting.
I don't think these regression ranges match up. I'm seeing the black background on linux at the head of each of these ranges.
The black background happens on mac/linux as far back as chrome 18, if it is a bug it is not related to this. This bug is just about slides disappearing, to be clear.
This and 123911 appear to be the same. They only repro on mac/win so I highly suspect that its chromium changes not WebKit. I am going to set up a mac dev machine in order to bisect this on OSX..

Even 123695 fall under the same issue.

Can reproduce on 10.6 only. Works OK on 10.7.
Yeh that's been others' feedback as well.

Good to hear. I have an idea of what's going on and it won't be too tricky to fix.
