Status: Untriaged
I do not know how to reproduce, but I experienced hangs since Chrome 18 went stable, as well as crashes.
Facebook simply hung, using Windows 7 64 bit.

Also, my website that uses the Google App Engine Channel API, as well as initiates XMLHttpRequest every half a minute or less, simply hung using Windows XP Professional SP 3 (Windows Classic theme) 32 bit, as well as using Windows 7 64 bit.
It does not use anything special graphically (no <canvas> or CSS animations/transitions. It does use border-radius and rgba and HTML5 Audio).
I think the hang occurred when the document.title changed, HTML5 Audio was playing and a Web Notification was shown.
(I know this is not Facebook, but it may help you find the cause.)

Note that the hangs are far far more frequent on Windows 7 64 bit, making the web site unusable.

Also note that this does not reproduce on Windows Vista Home Premium (Windows Classic theme) 32 bit (yet). Not with Chrome 18 and not with the latest canary build (20.0.1089.0).

I can just assume it is something in Area-WebKit.

Several users report similar issue with tab hangs on vk.com (VKontakte). Issue starts happening after auto-update to M18 from M17 and was not observed on M17 before.
phist...@chromium.org and dpolukhin@chromium.org, well same here. i'd reckon it is the update process that messed Chrome. and what is worse is that the issue with Norton Safe Web is still not fixed! I love chrome, but this may make me move back to Firefox :(

mike, sorry to ask you again but I hear your team handles general renderer now? Is there a chance someone over there can try to repro?

Anantha can we have QA try too?

I was able to constantly reproduce it on Facebook on Win 7 64-bit yesterday, but it doesn't seem to hang anymore. Perhaps Facebook was updated with a workaround?

Does anyone have another page that reproduces this issue?
I saw complains about hang on vk.com. But I wasn't able to reproduce it myself (with 20-30 tabs for about 1h).
Of what i notice, the hangs are occasional and it happens most often on Chrome 18 on Windows 7. Rather odd. and it happens even with just 1-5 tabs open. Also when the hangs occur, the whole chrome*32 process will not respond, and this results the user to kill the process in Task Manager. Any possible solutions?
Same thing with a web app I'm developing, and just about to go into public beta, now this happens. Things were fine in Chrome 17 now intermittent hangs, where the page content is unresponsive and I have to kill it through (Chrome's) task manager. Win 7 64 bit. Coworkers with various configurations (but all Chrome 18) are experiencing the same thing.
Instructions for creating minidump when tab hangs
http://dev.chromium.org/for-testers/bug-reporting-guidelines/hanging-tabs

These minidumps would be very useful in understanding and fixing this bug.
Will wait for the next instance of an error, and upload the file here
One of the users noted that vk.com hang issue didn't repro for him when browsing that through Incognito tab.

This bug with VKontkte (vk.com) is similar: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=122616
Hi Karen - our handling of general renderer problems is for when the usual suspects have their hands full.

Hopefully we'll get a dump soon and that should tell us where the problem is.

I've got no experience with the media players in WebKit - I don't know who to point this to.

@crogers - any ideas?

I'm also facing this issue, but not exactly: it's only the facebook tab (pinned) that freezes, the browser remains uasble. In fact I1m writing this in a tab nezt to the FB-tab that is frozen. and it's quite annoying.
I uploaded the minidump of that tab.

papkos@ thanks a lot for the dump. But unfortunately I cannot get useful information from it because the dump was made on 64bit machine and I can't switch WinDbg debugger view mode to 32bit. PEB32 info is missing or corrupted.

Does it mean that the file is corrupted, or just you can't read it? if the latter, can't you try it on an other machine?
Also FYI, a similar kill dialog coming up on modals Issue 122153
I think it is issue with that particular DMP file. Perhaps something went wrong when the minidump was generated. Sometimes it happens with DMP files.

Comment 37 by pap...@gmail.com, Apr 11 2012

Then shall I try to upload an other one, if it happens again?
Sure! More dumps are welcome.

It happenned again :(
I'm using Win7 x64, Chrome 18.0.1025.152. The SocialFixer addon is installed and running on facebook tabs.

Issue 122959 has been merged into this issue.
I contacted a few affected sites and they've temporarily disabled the feature so you shouldn't run into hangs.

We also have a fix for Chrome 18 that is being tested right now -- sit tight :)
Status: Fixed
laforge merged the appropriate fixes into Chrome 18 and QA verified it works:

Issue 122938 has been merged into this issue.
For some reason it has stopped. :D But, when I wake my PC up from sleep, it hangs again.
kapilharesh: great to hear! if you have consistent steps to reproduce that hang can you file a new bug?

make sure to include which OS, which version of Chrome, which web site, etc...

thanks!

@dpolukhin regarding comment #33, you can work around the 64-bitness of the dump to get the 32-bit callstacks as follows:

> .effmach x86
> .load wow64exts
> ~*k = @ebp @ebp @ebp

@ericroman thanks a lot for the commands they work.
scherkus: Sure, will try and see. of what i notice, Chrome has been updated. It is now 18.0.1025.162, and i think some stability and performance improvements have been made.

Same issue occure in my facebook from last 4 days, I am using chrome , windows xp. In same browser only facebook tab shows this prblem , at a same time other website are in working condition in same browser .
prasad007sp: can you file a separate bug? this one is months old and whatever you're experiencing is likely a different issue

Comment 58 by Deleted ...@, Oct 15 2012

I got same issue so often with Facebook tabs on Chrome on Window 7 64 bits in recent times. My Chrome Version 22.0.1229.94 m. May be time to use other browser

Comment 59 by Deleted ...@, Oct 23 2012

Same issue happens frequently recently. (At least since the previous 2 updates.)
