See http://www.khronos.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=582. I'm gonna try to write a patch for this! :-)

Thanks I think this actually needs to be fixed in WebKit 1) this fix would only fix Chrome, not Safari 2) WebGraphicsContext3D is mostly trying to emluate OpenGL and it is valid for OpenGL to return nothing. Ie, not a null terminate string but actually nothing. If you'd like to submit a patch for WebKit the file that I think would need fixing is here http://trac.webkit.org/browser/trunk/Source/WebCore/html/canvas/WebGLRenderingContext.cpp

Thanks very much for the patch. I agree with Gregg -- please fix https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77149 instead of this. You should be able to write a little helper function which looks at the String returned from GraphicsContext3D and returns WTF::emptyString() if isNull(). I'm going to close this one as WontFix. We would definitely appreciate a patch on the other bug though.
